4th Annual Foodstruction
This is the event where 25 schools, businesses, community service clubs, casinos, and hospitals have started collecting food, and will design and sculpt something out of the food. For four years groups have filled the Bullhead City Junior High School Gym, 1062 Hancock Road with food. Each participant is provided a ten foot square on the gym floor. These groups the past three years have built, Flags, Lighthouses, Towns, Bridges, Animals, an eight foot square Etch-A-Sketch and more. These groups will bring their food in cans, boxes, and bags to the gym and build their structure. Participants need to bring everything with them. The building of the sculptors takes place on May 9th. Then on Saturday, May 10th, the judging starts. Each structure is judged for Funniest Structure, Original Structure and People’s Choice. The judging will be Saturday from 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM, the public is invited to view the sculptures after 10AM. Many of the businesses that are participating will off discounts to the public on Saturday. There is a charge of one can of food per person to view the 25 plus sculptures.
“This year we have prizes for the public,” said Teacher Mike McClurg. Our sponsors have provided us with raffle items for the public. Certificates for The Grill At 310, Mohave Steakhouse, Hertz Rental, and Total Awesome Printing.
Upon completion of the public viewing of the displays all the food will be donated to the Colorado River Food Bank. “We are hoping for 40,000 food items” said McClurg. “Then Mr. Mike Paul of Tri State Building Materials will donate an Ace Hardware truck and fork lift to move the food from the gym, to the food bank”.
