Burro BBQ

Name: Burro BBQ
Date: April 12, 2014
Event Description:

Bullhead City Rotary Club will be hosting the 64th Annual Burro BBQ will be held on April 12, 2014 at Bullhead City's Rotary Park. The park is located on the southwest corner of Riverview and Lakeside. The actual event is smack in the middle of the soccer fields, at the large ramada (adjacent to the football field). The events will start around 10 am and will go to about 5 pm.

But to first clear the air, don't fear. The name is a hold over from 40+ years ago. Burros are no longer on the menu. Instead, the main course is pit cooked BBQ beef and pork. In addition, they'll be serving hot dogs, hamburgers, beans, potato salad, etc., and a variety of cold beverages for the enjoyment of both kids and adults.

The Rotary Club will have numerous activities going on with their many community partners. One partner, AYSO 397 is hosting a youth soccer tournament (River Daze) with over 50+ teams participating, U10-U19, both boys and girls. If you know of any teams who might want to play, please have them email AYSO 397 at bhcriverdaze@yahoo.com.

And for those who want to take advantage of AYSO 397's early fall sign ups, at the Burro BBQ only the registration fee is $40 per child for the fall season (with a $10 sibling discount- i.e. child nos. 2, 3, 4, etc. costs $30 to register). After April 12 the price is $60 per child.

Yet another civic group, the River Cruisers will have a classic/antique car show on another portion of the soccer fields (kitty cornered to the southeast of the ramada) for the families and kids' enjoyment. I've been told the kids can wander about for free to check out the classic old (but perfectly conditioned) cars.

Habitat for Humanity will also be on scene building shelters in a portion of the south parking lot (kitty-cornered to the southwest of the ramada) during the same weekend. It might do the kids some good to see the dedicated Habitat volunteers at work.

The Rotary Club will also be providing a variety kid friendly activities this year. One example of what will be on hand is an extremely large water slide (rumored to be 44' tall and 144' long).

For the adults, there will be music and much fellowship all day long under a shady ramada. Bring the kids and let them burn some energy up on a wonderful summer's day.

The Rotary Club usually divides the proceeds from the Burro BBQ between college scholarships and improving Rotary Park. As an example of Rotary's many projects, immediately to the north of the current soccer fields (across the north parking lot) another 35 acres of baseball, softball, soccer and football fields are under development, thanks to an alliance of civic groups the Rotary Club put together and is helping to fund for the benefit of the wider community.
